Name Us!
Monday, November 30, 2009
This site is devoted to capturing the best of the present--and looking ahead to see what's next.
You’ll provide the local knowledge to fill out the map of the city's cultural landscape, from music to food to theater and visual arts and more. We'll suggest some places to pull over and take a look around. But you’re in charge of plotting the way to places unknown. Look down the alleys and around the corners where the next big thing may be developing, or hiding in plain sight. Experience the joys of serendipity. Then tell us, and each other, what you've found.
But there’s one thing to do before we head out. Every territory needs a name, and that's your first assignment: help us name this place. A name makes a difference, and we want you to be part of the difference, right from the start. Leave your suggestions in the comments section below, and we'll set out on our trek together.

Name= Art Me!
Scene@WNYC
(I also like Culture Station)
keep in mind you might want to use this as your twitter name, too, so keep it short.
"get out" is good. can have a subheading - "you're in" - to lead into the open source mapping strategy.
Some suggestions:
In/Out (or In and Out)
Small Metropolis
Time & Place
Another idea for a name:
"ON TARGET!"
My suggestion for a name is:
"IT'S ON!"
seems like the thing that's setting you apart is that is that the journey is driven people plotting the journey...
Manhattan Mixtape
man v manahattan
The urban Pioneer
I like borough 6... very cute
How about CultLure
"Get Out"
nychART
"shotgun culture"
"culture scene"
Some ideas-
Back Alley
Rediscovery... or Rediscover NYC
Resilient NYC
Connecting NYC...or Reconnecting?
it could be good to integrate the word "open" to clarify the participatory nature of the project (although there are already two "open map" projects in nyc: oasisnyc.net and http://www.opengreenmap.org/greenmap/nycs-green-apple-map, both of which could use some interface improvements).
OpenScape NYC? meh.
Might be better to give the map a clever name like AlleyCat as "yourgo" suggested.
the core (the center/hub) of the big apple

Alternatively, with fused "p" and "c".
In graphic form, the font color would change as you cross from "p" to "c". With that, you could even overlay the "c" onto the "p". (I'm thinking from teal to black, but throw it open to suggestions.)

How about: "Off The Beaten Path" or "Nights & Days off Grid" ?
how about:

"Streets of Serendipity"
---------------------------------------
serendipity:
the consequence of serendipity is sometimes a brilliant discovery (happy) chance, (happy) accident, fluke; luck, good luck, good fortune, fortuity, providence; happy coincidence.

Metro Minutes
I also like Liz's suggestion of Borough 6 (being that I live in the 6th borough, Jersey City)
Off the Grid ("grid" being Manhattan, so off the beaten track) -
Common Ground(s)

"it's your turn"
"The Medium Well"
Hmmm...well, there is My New York (or My NYC). Or Borough 6. Or NYCulture. Or New York Horizons. Or Cultural Neighborhoods. Or A New York Minute. Or Metro Passport. Or Cultural Pass. Or NewYork2Nite. Off the top of my head, there's a few. ; )
"the hub" could be the main name, and then there's the option for "sub hubs"
