Talk To Me: Is Meditation the Medicine of the Mind?
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
The Rubin Museum of Art's BrainWave series pairs neuroscientists with artists and visionaries from multiple disciplines for lively discussions about how our minds work and how we perceive the world.
This conversation features the 'mind-body intervention specialist' Alejandro Chaoul as he discusses the power of meditation with Dr. Lorenzo Cohen. Chaoul breaks down the neurology behind phantom limbs, sound recognition and how his meditation techniques have helped cancer patients, their families and caregivers.

Bon Mots
On Mind vs Brain: "When you say they are the same, I hear that the mind and brain share the same address. In the Tibetan tradition, the brain could be one of the addresses, maybe the summer address, of the mind. But in fact, the main address it's not in the brain, the mind is the heart's mind."
On the Mind: "The mind can change this thing we call the brain."
On Meditation: "The meditative state is a balance between 'the monkey mind', the totally agitated mind, and when you're so relaxed you want to sleep. The idea is finding that fine-tuning.... then you will perform better."
